Retail Trend Technology Intervention - Retail Innovations 10
With the increasing importance of the millennial consumer and strong developments in the digital space, we witness how technology is playing a more integrated part in today´s stores - especially when looking at the more innovative retail concepts.
Technology however itself is not the innovation in this example; it is what the technology enables customers to do that provides a glimpse of true innovation. There are case examples of retailers integrating the use of technology to provide consumers with more choice, more access and more information than ever before.
Example cases range from UK´s Argos (with its omnichannel concept) to the OVS 2.0 in Milan and the US Amazon Dash.Details

Retail Trend Hyper Local - Retail Innovations 10
There is real power in truly being local. Having the right products sourced from the community speaks to powerful macro trends around freshness, sustainability, and supporting the local community, while attempting to keep prices low.
It also compellingly speaks to safety, and the consumer’s desire to become better educated and more demanding about the products they are consuming. The trend has been around for some time but retailers are now bringing it to the next level (hyper local) by demonstrating how local, organic and meaningful it can be. Being truly local, and often eco-friendly, means adopting sustainable green habits that can also save money. Less packaging can lead to more efficiency, as this year’s cases demonstrate.Details
Retail Trend Experiential Retailing - Retail Innovations 10
With e-commerce growing in sales and popularity on a global basis, retailers are forced to ask more often, “What is the role of the store?” The quick answer is that it can no longer just be an efficient place to buy commoditized products. Stores are social gathering places, centers for knowledge, learning and information, a place for fun, or relaxation.
They are the ultimate showcases for merchandise, exciting customers with possibilities. They are motivators to love better, eat better or beautify one’s home. In short, experiential stores are wondrous places that can deliver experiences in a way that a website can’t.Details

Retail trend in the picture: Service Experience 2.0
The ability to buy almost anything online places pressure on retailers and service providers to effectively differentiate their offer. For intangible offers (insurance, banking), physical presence provides a new way to interact with the customer. Ironically, the growth in online access highlights the needs for physical space to truly connect with customers.
For services providers (telecom), they must figure out new ways to provide a compelling retail experience. And, they must do this in an environment where consumers are becoming increasingly wary of being “sold” to. Innovation cases highlight new ways to create a service experience to the consumer that are about experiences and connections, not just selling.Details

Retail trend in the picture: Online Offline Mashup
A new retail era order is emerging. It will seamlessly blend the online and offline retail experience together, allowing customers to shop where and how they want, at any time. Online tools are being adopted for in-store use to bring the immediacy of online into the brick and mortar world. We are at our infancy in truly seeing the impact of these efforts.
There is no question however that the majority of innovation, now and into the future, will demand that retailers offer the customer the best of what the physical and virtual world have to offer. Brick and mortar retailers are clearly beefing up their online and cross channel capabilities. But, in an interesting twist, online players are now using physical space to attract customers. This mashup of online and offline retail will continue to drive new innovation.

Retail trend in the picture: Retailvention
While new innovations in retail are exciting (and risky), the biggest changes in retail from a volume perspective occur when retailers attempt to re-invigorate mature businesses.
Innovation is occurring as existing retail businesses look for new ways to remain relevant to their consumers. Retailvention cases demonstrate how a concept can change through the addition of new categories or services or simply a more dramatic way to showcase assortments.
Click the image to download the Retailvention cases as presented in the recent Ebeltoft Group publication Retail Innovations 8. Cases include Desigual from Spain, Adidas Neo Lab from Germany, Magazine Luiza from Brazil, Walgreens from the US and more

Retail trend in the picture: Eco Friendly
Eco-Friendly—Green is Good. The trend towards Greentailing seems to ebb and flow with the economy. While “green” was “the” hot topic just a few years back, it seems to have lost some steam in recent years. Much of this can probably be attributed to the economy.
While most consumers still express a preference to behave in an eco-friendly manner, the practical realities of budgets and performance of green products has slowed down the trend.
While it has slowed down, it has certainly not gone away. This year’s innovations reflect the many paths towards green, from environmentally conscious buildings to product driven offers that build entire formats around sustainability.
Will the latest green trend be “sustainable?”

Retail trend in the picture_ Customization and Crowdsourcing
Increasingly, customers are playing an active role in defining and determining the assortment. Consumers are no longer just passive recipients of what a retailer “thinks” they might want; they are active participants in the creation of the retail offer themselves.
From user submitted ideas to voting on favorite products, retailers are ceding more control of the store to their customers. Or, allowing the customer to essentially drive product development to create a truly customized experience.
Click the image to download the Customization and Crowdsourcing cases as presented in the recent Ebeltoft Group publication Retail Innovations 8.
For more information about RETAIL INNOVATIONS 8 please contact us.Details
Retail trend in the picture: Curated Collections
The heart of successful retailing lies in creating a coherent and compelling assortment for customers. It therefore is the job of any retailer to be an effective merchant, selecting the best products they can to create a coherent offer. So, the notion of curated retailing is certainly not new: what has changed is the consumer’s ability to access goods from a much broader (and global) variety of providers.
With the customer able to tap into nearly infinite access to products, this puts even more pressure on retailers to develop a clear and meaningful offer. Simply having a broad selection of products is no longer a differentiator—bringing these products together in unique ways offers retailers an ever changing way to innovate.
For this version of Retail Innovations, multiple entrants focus on innovatively creating assortments—no longer solely based on category but on a broader lifestyle view of the consumer. Cases showing how this trend has been translater into new concepts come from Australia and the US.

During the recent WRC 2011, the Ebeltoft Group hosted the leading session “Retail Innovations, still alive and kicking” that presented the emerging Retail Innovation trends as outlined in Ebeltoft Group´s international and annual research.
Presented by Fabrizio Valente, CEO Kiki Lab (Ebeltoft Italy), the session presented an overview of the trends and explained that the focus on “Story-telling”, is an emerging approach that can help retailers to build success through connecting with their shoppers via in-store story-telling of e.g. the retailer´s vision, mission or products. As example the Spanish retailer Happy Pills was presented; a new concept of candy store that looks as a pharmacy and targets adults. The session concluded with presentations by two retailers that are strongly involved in innovation; Adidas with its digital Wall and Eataly, winner of the WRC Award 2011 in the Retail Innovation category, with its New York concept.

As customer loyalty and enthusiasm are created at the points of contact of a company with its customers, it can be reasoned that Customer Experience Management (CEM) is the main success factor in today´s marketing and sales. Practically speaking however, what brings about such experiences? How can they be influenced? The answers to these questions can be found in the – for the most part – unconscious processes of the customer’s brain.
It is time to consider these diverse points of contact from a completely new perspective: From the perspective of the unconscious mind. The Neuromarketing Conference 2012 will guide you through one of the most fascinating areas of current brain research and, at the same time, will provide you with valuable tips as to how you can implement this knowledge in your CEM.
Ebeltoft Germany/Gruppe Nymphenburg cordially invite you to take part in this day of exciting presentations and discussions. The world’s leading brain researchers and CEM experts will provide you with fascinating insights into the findings and possibilities which neuromarketing offers in order to increase customer loyalty and enthusiasm.
